WEEK 11- Wisdom and Confidence
MONDAY — Read the passage with your team.
21 My son, preserve sound judgment and discernment. Do not let them out of your sight; 22 they will be life for you, an ornament to grace your neck. 23 Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble; 24 when you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. 25 Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked, 26 for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being snared.
Proverbs 3:21-26
What does this passage have to say about confidence?
Why is that important?
TUESDAY — Discuss the passage with your team.
1) Why is wisdom (“sound judgment and discernment” - v. 21) important? What promises are given to a wise person? (v. 22-26)
2) How will those promises affect a wise person’s confidence?
WEDNESDAY — Discuss the passage with your team.
3) Are you a person of “sound judgment and discernment”? Do you make wise decisions? Do you wisely consider a situation before giving your opinion? Do you see others according to God’s perspective?
4) Is your “wisdom” based on God’s view of life? How do you know what God’s view of life is? Is your “wisdom” the foundation of a true confidence, or a false confidence?
THURSDAY — Discuss the passage with your team.
5) During the course of your athletic season, what fears have you or your team faced? How have you stumbled? What unexpected problems have you faced? In what ways could a wise consideration of these challenges (a perspective based on truth — found in Scripture) give you confidence in facing them?
6) Have you and your team faithfully (with a desire to be taught by God) prayed about these things?
FRIDAY — Discuss sport applications of confidence and pray together.
· Ask your athletes to briefly reflect on what they’ve learned about confidence this week, and to repeat some of those things. (Remind them of some of the Biblical truths about confidence you’ve discussed, if necessary.)
· Ask your team, “Based on what we learned about confidence this week...What does a confident athlete do?” Do not settle for vague answers; challenge your athletes to go beyond general qualities of confidence, and to determine what those qualities look like in action.
· Add the results to your team’s list of descriptions of the “confident athlete”, and be sure the list is displayed somewhere that is constantly visible, as a reminder to the team.
· Pray together as a team. Encourage your athletes to pray for your team’s growth in regard to the discipline of confidence — especially in relation to some of the issues and challenges that you discussed together this week. Challenge them to also ask for forgiveness, when applicable. Give time for athletes to request prayer (regarding confidence or anything else), and pray together.
